Establishing a Renewable Portfolio Standard with a Solar Focus

Louisiana has the opportunity to lead the South in renewable energy innovation by establishing a bold Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that prioritizes solar energy development. My plan includes a dedicated solar carve-out that ensures a significant portion of our energy comes from solar power, creating a thriving market for Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs). By coupling this with robust net metering policies, we can make developing and selling solar energy highly profitable, sparking a solar gold rush in Louisiana. This approach will attract new businesses, spur innovation, and empower residents and small businesses to generate their own energy while selling the excess back to the grid. By rapidly expanding our solar capacity, we can lower energy costs, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and establish Louisiana as a leader in the clean energy economy—all while creating good-paying, sustainable jobs that benefit our communities.
