I am committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) as a vital part of Louisiana’s environmental resilience and economic development strategy. Recognizing the critical role of infrastructure in scaling up the EV market, I propose a bold initiative to expand Louisiana’s EV charging network, ensuring it reaches urban centers, underserved rural areas, and high-traffic transportation corridors.
This plan focuses on three key pillars:
- Investment in Public Charging Infrastructure:
- Partner with state agencies, local governments, and private enterprises to build a comprehensive network of EV charging stations. This includes prioritizing access in low-income and rural communities, ensuring no part of the state is left behind.
- Seek federal funding opportunities, such as those available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to support these investments.
- Incentivizing EV Adoption:
- Offer state-level tax credits for the purchase of EVs and home charging systems, complementing federal incentives.
- Support utility partnerships to provide rebates for EV charger installations and discounted electricity rates during off-peak hours.
- Equity and Accessibility in Charging:
- Collaborate with local municipalities to integrate EV infrastructure into public transit hubs, downtown areas, and near residential developments, making EV adoption practical for working families.
- Ensure all new state and municipal construction projects include EV-ready wiring to prepare for future demand.
By investing in Louisiana’s EV infrastructure, we can position the state as a leader in the clean energy transition, reduce emissions, create high-quality jobs, and enhance our resilience against the environmental challenges we face.
