Quentin Anthony Anderson, candidate for Louisiana State Senate District 14, released the following statement in response to the U.S. Justice Department’s decision not to bring federal charges in the 2019 death of Ronald Greene:
For Immediate Release - Anderson Statement on Ronald Greene Decision“It is hard enough to convict officers in cases of abuse or misconduct — something every American should understand given the difficult decisions law enforcement faces every day. But what happened to Ronald Greene was not difficult to understand. It was recorded, egregious, and unconscionable. And yet, despite clear evidence of brutality, the federal government will not bring charges.
This decision reinforces the despair felt in Black and Brown communities, who, time and again, see their lives and liberties disregarded. When we say, ‘Black Lives Matter,’ we are not claiming they matter more or differently — we are demanding they matter equally. It’s in moments like these — when a man is brutalized and killed, pleading for his life, and the system hesitates to act boldly — that communities are left questioning their worth in the eyes of the state.
From little Black kids who go missing to Black women surviving domestic violence, the government’s hesitation to pursue justice in these cases sends a chilling message. If justice isn’t blind, what exactly is it looking at?
The burden on the good, law-abiding officers who serve our communities is immense, and I will always stand with them. But their work is undermined by those in their ranks who abuse their power. When bad officers poison the well, they make policing more dangerous and less desirable, damaging the vital trust between law enforcement and the communities they are sworn to protect.
If the issue here is the law itself, let me be clear: as your state senator, I will fight to ensure Louisiana law is not an obstacle to holding criminals accountable, regardless of their badge or title. True accountability is essential — not just to protect our communities, but to protect the good officers who are committed to justice and integrity.
To the family of Ronald Greene, I stand with you in demanding answers, transparency, and real change. We cannot let this moment pass without recommitting ourselves to a justice system that works for everyone, no matter their race, background, or status.”
